Which broadhead should I use?
Fixed blade, mechanical? which one is the most price efficient? I need one that will get the job done the quickest? New hunter here so any hunting advice would be helpful as well! I was think on using Rage but they are SO expensive.

Muzzy 3 blade did well for me. I tried the rage 2 blade this year and lost my only deer I shot with it. No blood trail and it was not a pass through. This year I think I will try the slick tricks and see how they work since I have heard all good things about them.

i recommend rage 2 blade for mechanicals. if your shooting a bow at least with a draw weight of 60# you can use any mech. head you want. If you are shooting below that poundage you should use a fixed blade IMO. for fixed i recommend NAP Hellrazors, muzzy 3 blade, and NAP Thunderheads. |
first depends on your set up, so let us know at least the draw weight

I've used the 125gr Thunderheads for about 30 years...
As mentioned, any good, 3 blade fixed head will get the job done... |
I have been killing deer with archery gear since 1962. I am, and shall remain, convinced that simpler is better whe it comes to archery hunting. I much prefer a recurve .... but those days are ong gone for me now.
For a broadhead I prefer a cut on contact design over any of the mechanical designs. My favorites when I used a recurve or when I used a compound included the Steelforce Premium and Magnus Snuffer. Heck I still have a double handfuls of 150 gr. "Land Sharks". Because of a shoulder injury several years back that did not respond well to surgery and rehab, I had to switch to a cross bow. I decided to try several boraheads and ended up selecting the G5 Montec 125 fixed blade. The G5's fly super at high velocities and penetrate extremely well. And are as simple as they come. All you have to learn is how to touch up the blades should they dull ... and that is simple. If you decide to go to a style with replaceable blades, for decades I used the NAP Thunderhead. Never a single issue ... killing white tail deer and feral hogs. Many, many of my frineds have used the Muzzy 3 blades and love them. As far as expandables, you'll learn that some folks swear by them .. and some folks swear at them. My view is that while they can perform great (and I have seen the end results to that effect) , the fact is full and timely opening of the blades is critical to a quick kill. In my opinion, this introduces just one more something to go wrong. I have seen this sort of failure far too many times to suit me ... so many that I will not use this style of broadhead. |

Rage 2-blade.
how are they more expensive than any other broadhead? 3 vs 6? how many broadheads you planning on using? |
i used to be very skeptical and leary of the mechanical broadheads but im am using the new swahacker 2in and im sold nothing to go wrong as long as ur shooting enough kinectic energy, im shooting a dream season evo at 58 lbs harvested 10 animals, coyote bear and deer and shot one buck last year about 215lb through both shoulders complete pass thru on every animal and watched every one expire within 50yds no joke but make sure bow has enough umph to let broadhead work properly, cant go wrong with a fixed blade thats for sure!! Good luck 2 ya!!
