9mm enough?
I was wondering if a 9mm is enough for a sufficient kill on a deer? How far should the shots be limited to? Thanks

RE: 9mm enough?
I don' t think it is legal.

RE: 9mm enough?
i doubt it would be legal either.. to be honest i dont think it has enough velocity to do alot of damage.. i could be very wrong though.. its more for through and through not nock down power..but im not the expert

RE: 9mm enough?
Even if it' s legal, I don' t feel it' s ethical...because I don' t feel a 9MM is adequate...yes, it' ll kill an animal, just as a .22 would but it' s not sufficient enough....many don' t consider a .357 as enough, you should go at least .44...JMHO

RE: 9mm enough?
I would not shoot a deer with a 9mm unless it was close enuff to spit on.
Assuming it was a legal hunting weapon, which it isnt here in Indiana. We have to have .357 or larger. |
RE: 9mm enough?
Thanks guys...I was not seriously thinking about using it, just asking the question. I plan to use shotgun anyways, just trying to think of ways I can actually use the gun to hunt. I never thought to use it on a deer...thanks..

RE: 9mm enough?
I shot a sick racoon 7 times with a 9mm from about 5 yards before it finally killed him. I was making chest shots and thought sure one shot would have done it. After I got started, I really felt bad about having to shoot it so many times to put it out of it' s misery. I got rid of the 9mm.

RE: 9mm enough?
Not legal in IL.
Has to be .40 or bigger for handgun. Use something with more energy. |
RE: 9mm enough?
Just a personal thing, but I cannot stand a 9MM. I used a .45 for years in th CG (still do) and was very unhappy when they changed over to th 9MM.
The .357 should be O.K. for hunting if equipped with a longer barrel than those you would ordinarilly see for personal defense, they were the rage back in the fifties but died out when the .44s and .41s came along. It is a bit strange, here in Ga. they just changed the handgun rules to where you can use ant center fire including the 9MM, but I can not legally use my black powder .44 Walker even though it is a lot more gun. |
