How far do deer go to avoid unleashed dogs?
In scouting and considering potential bedding areas, I am curious about how much, if any, deer will do to avoid unleashed dogs.
There is a house on the adjacent property that has big, unleashed dogs. They are friendly enough to me but tend to bark at and investigate everything. Will deer avoid potential bedding areas near where these dogs hang out? |
I'd say so but maybe not

If the dogs are ever out running around then ya they will avoid the area. If they are pinned up then shouldnt be an issue. Also depends on how much land and what you have on the land to make them want to stay there.

Deer live there every day, they learn to skirt around those dogs...Most yard dogs will run them a bit and give up, doesn't really bother the deer much...One area I use to hunt the yard dogs would actually alert me as to when the deer were moving...Whenever the wind was right they would start barking, I knew to get ready as they were up and moving...
The first eight pointer I killed this year with my flintlock was pushed to me by a couple of yard dogs... :) Just gotta be in the right place... Where I grew up they run deer with dogs, even then the deer adapt and will stay in their local area... |
