7mm rem mag

How would a 7mm rem mag do short range and accuracy wise I want one for deer in Tennessee

Im sure it would do ok, but it is geared more toward long range. if you get the right load, it can be a very accurate caliber, I handload my own and actually found what seems to be the best deer load i have shot so far out of it. I was shooting hornady 139 gr sst bullets with 65.5 gr of RL19 powder and i shot ragged 1- hole groups at 100 yards. But if i was shooting short range in heavy cover i would go for something like a 30-30. just my opinion.

Yeah I thought that or 45-70. I killed 1 of my deer with a 6.8 rem spc and it didn't go 30 yards I highly recommend that round I killed a coyote with it dropped him he didn't even wiggle lol I might get that but rounds are heard to find for it

7mag is a great round, but imo unless you are shooting alot of long distance...its definitely overkill for typical whitetail hunting.

Yeah that's what my grandpa said too :/ so I'm thinking about maybe a 30-30 or .308

The 7mm is about too much for deer, I use mine as a combo elk/deer gun which is why i went with the lighter bullet for deer. For close range shots vs. buying shells, 30-30 shells are a heck of alot cheaper than belted mag shells and the 30-30 will perform much better in heavy cover.

Yeah. Now should I do bolt action lever or something else?

have you ever thought about a Marlin lever in .35 remington ? Great combo.

What's short range? Less than 200yds? Less than 100yds?

lots of options, sure a 7mm rem.mag would work, not sure it's the best option.

how about a
6.5-284
.270win
.308win
7mm-08

My 7mm mag is my to to deer gun. Shot two deer this year with it. One at 75 yards, one at 250yds. I hunt he Sandhills of Nebraska so you never know what range you are going to encounter. Any where from point blank to infinitity.

I used 175gr cor loks. It was more than enough for both deer. The 75 yard shot shattered the Deers front leg and shoulder. The 250 yard was a damn near perfect hit to the boiler. Neither deer went more than 20 yards, running dead.

However, heavy cover, I'd go with a smaller, shorter gun. No need for the magnum. I have always wanted a 30-30 lever action. I have the info to a guy actually selling one on here now if you are interested.
