How long to wait in same stand after first shot for another deer?
 

Tomorrow looks like the perfect day for hunting, and I'd like to take two does while I'm out there. If I get lucky in my first stand, what is the likelyhood that if I keep quiet and still after my first shot, that a second deer may move into the area? I'm hunting with a muzzleloader, so I won't be able to shoot twice quickly, and I want to reload as stealthily as possible.

Another way of putting it, how long would you wait in the first stand after the first shot before moving on? My plan is to still hunt into the wind in search of deer #2, I'm just not sure how long to wait before doing so.

i shot a buck and a doe the other night with a shot gun a hour and a half apart in the same stand

I have seen deer within minutes of shooting a deer during shotgun season. I would just stay put after the first one is down and wait.

Depends on how dumb they are. Before I got my new scope put on I shot at a nice doe and thought i missed her cause I didnt see her go down and it was at about 150 yards. I waited in the stand hoping another deer would come out and not 5 minutes later another doe came out exactly the same size and from the same spot as the first doe so I just assumed it was her cause usually when you miss by a mile they will either stay put or if they run back into the woods cause of the noise might come back out. I fired and saw that one go down.

Walked out to get her and saw the first doe not 20 feet away laying on the ground.

I've also shot deer minutes apart. If you sit still, and there are deer in the area, you'll see more. If you aren't seeing anything, still hunt. I enjoy that more personally.

Stay put. If they are moving and you are in a good area you will do well.

I am a firm believer that the sound of a shot doesn't seem to bother the deer too much around these parts; just don't get noticed. Even with my muzzleloader, I have shot additional deer from the same small herd. If its a good spot, stay put!

This time of year I'd stay put and wait.
