Shotgun question?

1 Attachment(s)
With the firearms season fast approaching I was wondering what shotguns you guys use and also what slugs do you shoot? Whats your max range and whats the farthest youve ever killed one with the boom stick? Also post pics if you can.I shoot a Remington 870 express 12 guage and I use Remington Copper Solids they are super accurate witch is why I like them , however I do not like the price they are about $16 and some change most places. This is my best gun buck ever goes right around 130 I believe.

I have many slug guns but my go to one would be my Savage 220f, Remington Accu-Tip 3", I would take a 200 yard shot at a deer with this set up only if the conditions are correct, my other guns are also 20ga. using the same ammo: Remington 11-87, H&R Ultra Deluxe, Mossberg 500, Ithaca 37. and in 12ga, the go to gun would be my Remington 11-87 with Lightfield EXP 2-3/4"

I have a Marlin 512 that prefers sabots up to about 1700 fps. Faster sabots seemed to shoot poorly. I like the Brenneke KO Sabot (not the standard KO slug), 1 oz, 3" that were rated for 1650 fps. They were very accurate and put the hurt on deer. Farthest I ever shot one was just under 100 yds. Last time I bought them they were $12 a box of 5. Now I'm using an Indiana legal rifle, so no more toting that old 2x4.

I shoot a Rem 870 express using Hornady SST's. Accurate up to about 150 yards if perfect conditions. Longest kill shot for me is around 80 yards.

i have a mossberg 500a 12ga with hornady sst 300gr sabots i can shoot like 150yds but most of my shots are under 100yds

I have the Savage 220F, my ammo is 2-3/4" Remington Accutip.

H&R ultra slugger 12 and 20. hornady sst. killed a doe at 197 and another at 223 with the 12. killed a doe at 174 with the 20. extremly accurate "rifles" (lets call it what it really is. rifled barrels and not for use with shot shells so they are not shotguns) have never missed a deer with either of them

I usually use my TC Omega during firearms season here in Indiana. One shot, one kill.

Mainly I use one of my two H&R USH Deluxes with either 2-3/4" Brenneke heavy field mags or 3" Brenneke gold mags. Son shoots a 20 USH w 3" brennekes too. They are all very accurate. I went 190 for a small buck one season but 100-150 is normally longest shots of course plenty of shots shorter distances.

If I'm in heavy cover and shots up to 50 yards I like my old JC Higgins 12 gauge pump. Inherited it from my Father. It's barrel is shortened w rifled sights brazed on. Action is smooth as glass. Shoot Brenneke 2-3/4 KOs cause I treasure it and don't want to beat on it. Great brush gun.

I too shoot the same set up when I break out the shotgun. longest kill for me has been 55yds (not with this gun though). But I dont really use my shotgun anymore (mainly home defense now) as I use my Knight Disc Extreme Muzzleloader for shotgun season here in Indiana.

Remington 11-87 semi-auto
Remington sabot slugs...nut sure of current brand name as they seem to change every other season.
Longest kill is ~100 yards but would feel comfortable taking a shot out to ~150 yards. Target shooting I can put tight groups at 100 and would expect similar performance at 150.

I also have the 870 express magnum and shoot the hornady sst sabots out of it but I rarely hunt with it. I will take my muzzleloader any day over my shotgun. Yes, you only have one shot but then again I can reach out so much further and more accurate with my muzzleloader. Also, hopefully you only need one shot. I shot my biggest buck last year at 200 yards with my knight muzzleloader. Hornady makes sst bullets for black powder rifles too which is what I use. Very deadly combination in my opinion!

I use my Wingmaster 870 with slug barrel .I shoot Winchester hollow points .The longest shot I've taken 15 yards and the closet is 12yards .The farthest I've track my buck is 60 yards.

If you aren't using the Savage 220F, then you might as well be using a gun from the 1800s. Seriously, this gun has made all other shotguns used with slugs, well, like using a gun from that era in comparison. Check out the facts as Chuck and others see them...
