Abnormal Buck
Hey guys, Im new to the site, and the other day i shot this massive weird lookin buck. He's got velvet still on, along with some other odd stuff goin on up there. I couldnt get my fingers around the base of the rack. Nobody around here has really seen anything like him, so we caped him out and threw him in a freezer in case he may be worth anything. Any thoughts or ideas regarding his rack? Im wondering if this dude's worth anything?
and yes, that's the exit hole lol he was quartering towards me. thanks again ![]() ![]() |
A picture would be helpful :)
But only for the sheer reason that I love wierd looking bucks. I probably just got trolled. |
Worth is a subjective value. A taxidermist might give you a little for him. You can get a kit to preserve the velvet and could mount it on a plaque, or do a shoulder mount on the deer.

That sure is a strange looking rack. I know sometimes a buck can damage its testicles and the rack will look strange with the velvet staying on it like that. Not sure what else would cause that. Congrats on the buck.

Search for "cactus buck" and "cryptorchidism".
|
Not sure what would cause that, but if I shot him I would pay to get it mounted.
|
How do i see the pic????

They're on there man..

Value wise, I wouldnt think anyone would much care to actually pay for the buck. (better check your states game laws, some expressly prohibit selling game parts so you could unknowingly get into trouble!) i'd mount him & enjoy the rare trophy! |
That is a weird looking buck but what the heck he will be good to eat.

I would have a conservation officer take a look at it. Not saying it is....but it could be a rare disease they should know about. As far as mounting it....your dam right you should mount it. That's something you don't see everyday and would make a super conversation piece.
Nice buck if you ask me. |
Cool looking Buck!

hmmmmaybe i found him finally!!!

i agree cactus buck...usually when, like the last pic b4 me, their testes get jarred or removed, they will quit sheddin antlers, and the new growth every year adds to the last years...is that rope grown in there? cactus are hard to come by, but not un common. mount it, hang it on the wall..NO ONE has a mount exactly like that 1

I would call a university or wildlife service and get it analyzed. That could be some interesting information, because I've never seen anything like that.

My husband killed a buck in December that was still in velvet a couple of years ago. His buck had some issues with his boy parts. Either he never developed or he had had an unfortunate accident. But yours is a lot more boogered up looking. Congratulations on the cool kill!

Cryptorchidism well I will be dam you learn something new everyday thanks guys great thread! :)
|
i would mount it but i dont have the money at the time.. hints why i was hoping for some value on him! and no he definitely wasnt a female, and his nuts were fine hah but thanks for the info guys.

If money is the issue then cape him out and freeze it for when you do have the money. Just make sure you cut the skull and leave a cap for the taxidermist. Another thing you could do which is pretty cheap is cut the horns at the base and make a European mount out of it...I think that would look real cool!

once in a lifetime buck for sure..id mount him
|
you sure its not a doe??
