Shooting House?!
Should I go ahead and try to build a shooting house this year since there is only like 2 months until hunting season? I have built a shooting house each year for 3 years now and only have 150 acres. What do you think is the best thing I can do to assure a great hunting season?? We hunt in AL.

What type of area are you thinking about putting it in?

Go ahead and build it. I'd just let the paint dry for a week or so before putting it out. Brush it in real good and you should be good to go. Good luck this season, Joe.

@jsk1968. But would it not just be better to hold off from building one at all this year since the season is so near? My dad is the one who wants to do it but it seems to slow hunting each year he does.

@Deepsouthdeerjunky. All of the land is wooded. There are no just big greenfields on it.

Build 'em. Paint 'em. Set 'em out as soon as you can. .
A place of 150 acres of good habitat in an area of Alabbma where deer are plentiful is plenty god. Try to find a place to set the houses where there is adjacent cover, and where you have a decent view of a few trails. If you can establish a food plot or two ... try 1/2 acre or so, long and narrow. I hunt Alabama too. The Quality Co-Op stores and every seed/feed store I have had experience with these past 40 +/- years offer a good food plot mix that is a combination of wheat, oats, grain rye and Crimson clover for about $15/50#. Does a good job for attracting the deer and turkey. |
