Full moon

This has been one of the slowest weeks for seeing deer. I know it's hot but I've only seen 2 deer since Wednesday! Does the number of deer you see go down when a full moon is here?

I hope not since it's suppose to be a full moon sunday night into monday. Monday is our bow opener here in Indiana. Never paid much attention to it in the past since I didn't bowhunt. I only had 2 weeks a year to get my deer.

Been hunting white tail deer in the deep south for 50+ years now. Mostly in SE Al. My experience with a clear, bright moon lit night is that deer tend to move later in the morning. The big driver down here is the weather. Hot weather, they seem to move very little in the day light. The cooler, the better ... as far as deer moving in day light hours. So you may be being hit by a double whamy.

When it is hot, I tend to hunt in the coolness of the creek bottoms, along trails or near dropping acorns .... and stay as long as my rearend will take.

You hit the nail on the head Mojo! I have a lease in north Florida and it was really hot plus the full moon. The 2 deer I saw were bucks which was nice. Sadly though one was only a 4pt and the 8pt never offered a shot. 8pt was seen at the very first crack of light and the 4pt was about an hour before dark. The weird thing is a buddy saw 3 does around 10am going from one lease to another. That is what throws me off with my earlier thoughts.

Seeing animals behave strangely every now and then doesn't make it the norm. Animals can be chased up by farm equipment, or predators. We just happen to see them on there way to the next bed down.
