Another giant found dead. Sad!!

Here is a deer found in Nebraska that died from disease. People have been pulling them out of ponds like crazy. One guy I talked to said they pulled 24 deer out of one of their ponds. Unreal! I've seen a picture of another giant non typ found dead as well. He would have been in the 200in club.

Stonewall308 09-11-2012 08:36 AM

That is a shame.

However, I will say that it would be nice if every once in a while you saw a picture in which nobody was trying to manipulate it to look bigger. This old trick about stretching your arms out so that you are far away from the camera but the deer is close to the camera, this trick is just worn out and lame. It looks like that deer's left antler is about 10 inches from the camera.

Master Chief 09-11-2012 08:43 AM

Stonewall-he is most likely pushing it away to try and avoid the smell!

Awesome buck and it is a very unfortunate situation some states are in. We've had a few cases of deer in ponds but no ehd has been confirmed.

rab123 09-11-2012 10:07 AM

long arming or not,you can tell its a massive buck.

iayotehunter 09-11-2012 10:28 AM

You can also see that his arms are bent at a 90. He's not holding it out that far

invmp12 09-11-2012 04:10 PM

X2, Its a massive buck.

AR Bowhunter 09-11-2012 05:17 PM

I that is an awesome buck. I don't care if you had it setting on the trailer behind you it still looks big.

supaflav 09-11-2012 05:59 PM

look at his hands on the rack and it's will give a better idea of how big they truly are...and they are big.

Beamer01 09-11-2012 06:10 PM

Camera trick or not, it's a monster buck.

Sniggle 09-11-2012 06:13 PM

Must be blue tongue. Hit us 5 years ago and killed over 50% of the deer in our area. The woods stunk of rotting deer in September & October.

nodog 09-11-2012 11:51 PM

I wonder if deer left produce more when they die off like that?

WldSd 09-12-2012 05:57 AM

That's a shame no matter how big it is. Hate to seem them go that way. We just had one found beside our property hit on the highway...stupid roads.

1blueboy 09-12-2012 07:23 AM

No matter its size I hate to see a any deer die of disease!

halfbakedi420 09-12-2012 10:19 AM

lol..really...this post and the guy says he is tryin to make it look big. if you cant tell thats a bigazz buck from the pic then ya need glasses.
20 deer from one pond? sounds like poisoning...rat bait cause rats to leave and go for water...
what disease do they suspect? is this catarrhal fever?

Topgun 3006 09-12-2012 10:29 AM

No kidding! Long arming it my rear!!! The guy has his elbows down near his side like his elbows are braced so he can hold that big friggin thing up! The mass on that buck is unreal and what a shame to die like that! Blue tongue is a real killer and can wipe out close to 100% of the deer in a particular area once it hits and all you can do is pray for cold weather to kill the insects so they don't continue to spread it.

bscofield 09-12-2012 10:47 AM

I've heard more about EHD than bluetongue this year... and finding them in or near water is one of the tell-tale signs of EHD (maybe of bluetongue too?). Either way- that sucks!

NEBRbruiser 09-12-2012 07:04 PM

Yes it's pretty sad and as far as the guy trying to hold it some special way??? Haha, whatever you think. EHD and blue tongue are very similar diseases. The disease is carried by certain bugs/mites and normally even if deer are bitten by something with the disease they will usually come out of it. However, where deer have a hard time coming out of it is in hot and dry weather (drought), which is what we have obviously had all summer. It is a shame for sure! By the way, I'm no expert on EHD and blue tongue, just saying what ive read online. We need weather to cool down soooon!!

VA5326 09-12-2012 07:33 PM

That sux. Too bad that's not a glory shot.

BOONER1331 09-19-2012 04:33 AM

wow...monster

NorthJeff 09-19-2012 10:25 AM

It's a monster from any angle...and a shame no matter what age or size. Real bummer what has been happening this year!

i hate it more when people do that with fish they catch! i hold it as close to my body as i can so people can actually get a size reference!

Try to imagine a rotted stinking deer head, and you hold it for a pic. and someone says get it closer to you.

furgitter 09-19-2012 07:26 PM

I think its funny that all the head hunters pass on what they think are too small a rack, and then cry when it dies like this, or by a truck, or a million other ways. Thats a nice deer, but dont give a meat hunter crap for killing a 2 1/2 year old buck when he isn't just after the head. Those old sausage bucks are pretty to look at on a wall, but I'd take a yearling for the table any day.

MZS 09-20-2012 04:29 AM

Sounds like the drought forced these deer to share almost dried up watering holes, concentrating the disease and its spread.

furgitter 09-20-2012 04:35 AM

MKZ that sounds like a reay good theory. Very well cold have happened that way.

warbirdlover 09-20-2012 08:18 PM

Hope you don't have CWD down there. It's wreaking havoc on whitetails in southern Wisconsin.

gregrn43 09-21-2012 12:38 AM

He's a dandy

CWD still pretty bad in S. WI? I used to go hunting down there years back. Where I hunted was Barneveld, only a few miles from where the disease started. There were a LOT of deer back then.
