Tree Stand Height
Looking for some thoughts from others. What do you think is the minimum height for an archery whitetail tree stand? What is optimal height?
Minimum is on the ground .optimal I like to be 20 plus . I find at that hieght you are less likely to be spotted
No minimal height. I hunt dense cover. My preferance is about 14-16' off the ground, depending on tree cover. I find much higher than that makes it more difficult get a double lung on close shots.

Let the cover dictate you height. I have hung stands from 12ft, if I am concealed, to over 20 feet if the cover isn't sufficient. There's no need to go higher than necessary. Just make sure you are well concealed. Use the sun, the shadows, the trees, the brush, everything you can to conceal yourself as well as possible.

Cover around the set-up, both front and back are as important in my mind as height. Having said that I usually set up about 15' - 20' off the ground for archery and 20'-25' for gun hunting. One thing to be mindful of is to not get so far above the understory (if there is any) as to block off a great deal of the kill box.

Cover matters, but I go around 15. Too high and you change the angle of your shot too dramatically.
I agree with the others, however high is necessary. However when the wind starts blowing I may decide I've over-estimated.
Usually with archery I don't go any higher than 20 feet but it depends on a lot of factors.
I like to be in the nose bleeds if possible. 20-25' . makes me feel sneaky

Thanks for all the replies guys. I agree with most, right around 20 ft unless you have a lot of cover.
