beats me, they were doing it that way before I came along.
I think if you say you got a 4 point it is another way of saying you got a mature deer. Nobody really cares if it had eyeguards or not. I am talking mule deer.
If you say you got a 5 point it sounds like you shot a non-typical.
Probably shouldn' t look for the logic, just is what it is.

If I am talking with a (deer)hunter I like to get or give a good idea about what the deers rack is like.
" A heavy 5X4 frame with a 5" drope tine on the right side that scores 197 gross and 188 net, non-typical."
That tells me somthing. Or you could just say you shot an " 10 pointer."
A woman could be described as 36" ,24" ,36" (that tells you something)or for those of you who like things totaled up she would be a 96 incher (that leaves you wondering).

noway - It is what it is! So true. That just made me curious though. I' m not familiar with mule deer but I have noticed on shows and in magazines they tend to call them by sides. Just seems like leaving out the brow tines would make the deer sound smaller than it actually is.

maybe once upon a time in Canada you all got a bunch of funny lookin' whitetail that had 1 tine on one side and 5 points on the other and so you had to start tellin' people that you got a 1X5 instead of a 6 pointer.

Some of our canadian bucks would score higher with one five point antler and one spike than many of the so called 6 pointers. Many would weigh twice as much as most deep south whitetails as well.
