August Acorns

Last weekend in middle Wisconsin (SE of Wausau), I was walking thru our 60 acres, scouting a lil. And I was shocked at the acorns falling. It looked like over half the crop had fallen. Half were bright green and the rest almost ripe.

With the crazy early spring and drought this summer, I'm guessing that had something to do with it.

BUT ACORNS FALLING THE 2nd WEEK OF AUGUST? Isn't that over a month early?

They will still probably ripen on the the ground but I'm guessing weeks earlier than normal. So will they be gone by October?

Wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

Yes, this year has been messed up. July was hot, august has mostly felt like Fall. If they are dropping now they'll be mostly gone sooner than usual. The deer will adjust, and we'll have to adjust with them.

This drought has everything ripening early. I have seen plenty of Corn already harvested here in Illinois. Seems it should concentrate the Deer around other food sources come the first of October. It could be a blessing in disguise. Time will tell.
