I have been shooting the same .308 for over 15 years. It is a model 700 Remington. I have shot over 200 deer with it and it is by far the favorite long gun that I own. I shoot hand loads and it is DEADLY accurate so far out to 329 yards (the longest shot I have taken with it so far.) I have done a lot of work (x-tras) done to the gun and can shoot one inch groups at 275 yards. I also have several other rifles but like I said, the .308 is my favorite by far. Like MarkIIVT, I also do a lot of handgun hunting but my favorite handgun is a .300 Whisper. It is extremely flat shooting and my longest shot with it so far is 231 yards but I love my .44 caliber out to about 75 yards. I hope this helps!! CDH

GM, no deer on this planet will tell the difference between the 30-06 and the .308 Winchester! So if it fits you better, it sounds like a good trade to me!

I just bought a BAR and selected it in 308. I made this caliber choice based upon its versatility and incredible accuracy. It should not go unoticed that the sniper guns used by our armed forces and most of our police departments are 308. It is a ruthless deer round.
