Best deer hunting shot gun

In my mind the best deer hunting shot gun is not a pump but a over and under 12g 3in smooth bore for this simple reason you can load shot on the bottom and a slug or you can get a riffled 357 adapter that also shoots a 38 on top. so if you wanted to hunt birds or small game later on you can and still be able to have a second shot

I did this once when I got tierd of jumping on a good buck and missing because of just a slug and how fast he moved

Go to gunadapters.com to see the adapter it will be under 38 don't ask me why

I disagree with you. In many areas that require the use of shotguns, ammo is limited to slugs, and, the rifle barrel liner would make the gun not legal. Regulations vary widely though.

The O/U platform is well suited to moving birds and small game, and shot-filled shells. Also this gun is generally not equipped with rifle sights, though they can be added.

Assuming your "ideal" gun is legal where you are, I still feel a rifled bore bolt or pump slug gun is a better option. I prefer a scope. I would not put a scope on an O/U.

An O/U is not a deer gun, no matter how you try to set it up---Period!!!

I have to agree with UNCLE AND TOPGUN the O/U is not a deer gun,ya if thats all you had it could work. And the set up with the adapter ifs far from legal in most areas.I think you just showed us the worst deer hunting shot gun !!!!!!!

Better check you reg's dude. From what i have read if your hunting in a shotgun zone you can't have the 38 with you only 22 rim or smaller ?? And from your statement i think your saying that you jumped a deer and the deer was running so fast you missed him with the slug and used the 38 as a back up ????

Pick any gun you want, shooting at running deer is not a high percentage choice.

not trying to beat you up on this but a 110 gr .38 shoots just as fast as a 12 gauge slug. and you were probably using 147 gr. that shoots around 850 fps.

they are on sale at bass pro this weekend. Im very tempted to pick one up despite already owning a 20 ga USH with a leupold 2-7. I don't think it will do anything differently then what I already have, but I've heard great things about them

The Savage 220 in my opinion is the best slug gun around right now. I've even been tempted to buy one and there are no regulations requiring a shotgun where I hunt.
