A buddy of mine found this buck tangled on a 10ft barb wire fence, sent me the rack. I didnt take a tape measure to it but i can't even wrap my fingers around the base..like a 1 inch gap between my two fingerpoints, the inside spread is roughly 24" so it's not that wide of a rack....but VERY unique from what I'm used to seeing around here in VA and Eastern Shore area (avg BIG buck size I've seen 8-10 pointer 200 -250lb). My old man guesses this was probably in the mid to upper 200 pound range..maybe more...
The rack - 24 points counted.
I gave it to my old man as a birthday present for his "trophy room", he's a hardcore hunter @ 70 years old!
He didn't shoot it...but it's a great conversation piece...he's the only guy in his club with a non-typical deer for showcase lol.

...OR could this be an elk or another type deer other than whitetail???
watcha think?!

I think elk rack possibly.. I dont think Whitetails rack lean back that far

the skull itself is nearly identical to a whitetail skull (center ridge crack line, eye sockets, nasal, teeth etc.), but side by side to his other whitetail skulls/racks this guy is a neanderthal.
I myself nor my dad have the knowledge of what a elk skull is in to comparison to a whitetail...and also Google images that I've seen of elk the racks themselves look like a darker bone color than this.
Not trying to be argumentative or anything but I am just trying to put input on what I've found and would like to hear from others who have more experience/knowledge. :hail:

Brow tines look more like an elk rack.

I made another post of this in the Big Game Hunting section..reason for not actually knowing what type of deer this was..but another guy (skiftcky) also thinks it's a Fallow, and after looking at some Google images I'm leaning towards yours and his opinions on it. :woot:

Not sure how to delete or move this thread to appropriate section...if a admin could help me out with this I'd appreciate it ... since the census would be leaning towards not a whitetail :happy0001:

I wouldn't worry about posting in the whitetail section. Though I was looking for Ontario deer hunting stories when I clicked on Canadian... It's a nice one, and interesting to whitetail hunters, I think. We have a few running around in Michigan. They are interesting for more than their tremendous antlers. They can eat grass for instances, and are immune to CWD.

I can not help but to believe it is a whitetail that is a giant non-typical rack. Antlers can grow quite strange looking at times. Although this very well could be a cross with some other member of the deer family.. I do not know what other than perhaps a moose..

Yeah after re-reading the post and more research it clearly is no whitetail deer..

I'd like to see a side view close up. This skull and antlers just look fishy to me. (kinda synthetic maybe?) or could be a fallow as said:rolleye0011:
