I would like to hear from persons using the 30 Remington AR for Whitetail hunting. I'm interested in hearing about what kind of groups you're getting at the range. I'd like to hear about favorite reloading recipes and the results.

(I knew a hunter who used a .32 Remington forty years ago.)

I believe the .30 Remington will still work on deer; even for newbies.

The 30 Remington and 30 Remington AR are not the same. The 30 Remington AR is new as of 2009. The 30 Remington AR has very similar ballistics to the 300 Savage. Currently the Remington R-15 and a DPMS upper are the only factory samples. Actually DPMS builds the rifle for Remington as both are owned by Freedom Group.

Get a 6.8 REM SPC. I had one for a while and used it on deer. Probably better than a .30 Remington, but it did come from a .30 Remington case.

I don't understand why all these companies keep developing new cartridges. I've yet to hear of one that can do something that my .30-06 can't do.

I too love my 30-06 Stonewall308. I have a pet load 150 gr Sierra Pro Hunter bullet, 48 gr IMR4895 and CCI primers. I can hit a quarter at 100 yds every 3 shot group. The last twelve deer have fallen in their tracks on the first shot. I will continue to use this combo but I'd like to mix it up and use other rounds and work on new loads for the rounds.

I have the R-15 .30 Remington AR and I have to say it is an excellent cartridge. As a matter of fact, I just took it out to the range today since it was such a beautiful day here in northern Jersey. With factory 125gr. Remington Accutip ammo I shot a 2.08" 4 shot group at 300 yards. Not too shabby for an off the shelf AR with factory ammo! (BTW this group was shot prone with a bi-pod)

My father used his this past season in NY and harvested a few whitetails very efficiently.

I see little reason to get a .30 remington AR, recently read an article a guy built a NULA lightweight 4lb bolt rifle in that caliber, as a close range hunting rifle, under 200yds or such.

personally I'd get a 308win, or 300 aac blackout which savage now chambers.

You're right.. .69 MOA out of a factory "Hunting" AR with factory ammo is little reason to buy one.. Humm.. The .30 RAR is pushing a 125 gr. bullet at a rate of 2800 fps. @ the muzzle with 2176 FLBS thus making it more than sufficient to harvest deer sized game. It has proven itself many times over since its introduction in 2009 on black bears, whitetails, pronghorns, wild boar and even elk. Keep in mind this is done out of a light weight AR-15 platform rifle. It definitely out performs the 300 AAC Blackout's 2230 fps. and 1381 FLBS.

In my opinion the 300 AAC Blackout has use in the tactical market for its intended use as a short range, suppressed .30 cal. I wouldn't be confident taking a shot on a large northern tier NY buck with this rifle past 50 yards.

The .308 Winchester is in a totally different class all together. It is an excellent caliber and has been utilized for many years to successfully harvest every kind of game. However it has a draw back.. Have you every carried an AR-10 all day? I have.. I have a few of them.. Not very fun to carry around the woods. In order to use the .308 Winchester in an AR platform it has to be on the heavier, bulkier AR-10 or LR platform. This is where the .30 RAR is superior to the .308 win.

Swagger, you are correct sir. One can not argue with proven physics in reference to the 30 Remington AR ballistics being superior to the 300 Blk and 6.8 SPC. I sure do like the 6.8 SPC as my moniker indicates. I like the pics. Nice shooting! 300yds...factory ammo...very nice! Keep up the good work.
