Default White Tails and Burrs??

I have roughly an 80 acre chunk wooded land that used to be a pasture for cows. The problem is it is cover with burrs!!! The cows must of spread them, its really crazy.

My question is do the burrs bother the White Tail deer?
Is there a way to eliminate the burrs?

Depending on wehat kind of burrs, deer love the leaves. I have killed a couple nice bucks coming to common cickle burr patches in the South.

they are the most annoying plant. They release little/big prickly things (seeds i think) that stick to your clothes, and dog fur.

Ask your local ag center to spray them and they will disapeer! I do this every couple years as well as spray the thistles. Hope you get on them soon or they will overrun every thing.

Good luck;

Mac

The deer don't eat the burr, they eat the leaves. I believe they are also a staple of many natural medicines. I acutally look for the small fields of them. To me, a true burr is just slightly smaller than a golf ball covered with small hooks. i don't believe the deer eat the leaves after the burrs begin to turn brown.

I once helped Will Primos get on a unique double racked buck on a burr field. he made a good shot but we did not find the deer until the next morning and had to look all over the whole dang field. I just threw my clothes away.

Thanks for the photo. I have heard these called Rockachaws down this way or "Sand Spurs". Nasty buggers for sure.
