deer scoring help

2 Attachment(s)
I don't know how to do it as its not a big concern of mine. Have been asked by a few people about my muzzle loader buck on the score and had me wondering. He is no monster but the hunt of taking him and how it all ended was certainly great and means more to me than any number.

Only got a few pics of him.

A rough estimate is good enough for me. Is a 9 pt with a 1" sticker on right side with some palmation. Don't know of base diameter if its needed.

I am getting him mounted as the hunt was great and love his rack characteristics.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks guys.

wish I had my bow with me that day, but taking him with my Hawkens is just as sweet.

My guess would also be around 110-115. I'm guessing 16 or 17 inch inside spread. Probably 20 inch beams. I'm only seeing about 45 inches per side. His G2 and G3s lack length, but he has awesome G2s!

I really like the look of him. Your best bet is to just download a scoring sheet from Boone and Crockett for free, and take the measurements. That's the only way you'll get a true score as pictures can be deceiving. I had my picture taken after shooting a 9pt buck this year and the picture made him look like a 115 incher and he ended up being 128. I have a 8pt buck getting mounted now that the pictures taken of him everyone swears he was ATLEAST 140, and he ended up barely breaking 130. The thing about it is the 8pt looks MUCH bigger than the 9pt...even though he's only about 4 inches bigger...

Every time I've measured a deer I've been just a tiny disappointed because I had estimated high. I don't know why I still bother....

Great buck btw.

Inside was 16 1/4" buddy at work asked me to take that measurement and let him know the evening I shot him.

Looking at the sites for measuring and asking my coworker a couple questions made it clear why I don't put much into the scoring system. Maybe I am just a simple person who enjoys the hunt more, but I won't ever let a score number decide if a deer is a trophy or not.

I'd say in the 120's

I agree he is about 120. However, a load of character. Like you, I don't care much about score as I never send one in to anything. Usually, I score them for my own information and do know how to score as I have done literally hundreds of them. Here is the easiest way to score one.

Decide what you want it to score and that is what it scores.

That way, you never have to worry about it. I always tell people who ask, "I don't know for sure, I think something less than 220."
