Sounds like a fallow whitetail. We have a few renegade herds of these around Maryland (none around me though [:' (]). They' re generally somewhat bigger, their antlers are a little smoother and they keep their spots through their life.

I' d contact the nearest game farm and tell them one of their pets got out. Contact you DNR and clue them in also. Unless of course you want to take the chance that thing isn' t CWD or TB positive. [:' (]

I have to agree with Dave...All signs point to a Fallow Deer...Why they appear to be so docile and have no fear of man is another question. Maybe F&G folks could help here....

Yeah, with that many points and the spots I will bet you thats a fallow deer. We had some for years about 20 miles from where I live that a rich landowner had released on his land. I haven' t seen one in while. They tend to have a much higher occurrence of odd colored coats and non-typical racks than a regular whitetail. As for why its so tame, perhaps someone had it in a pen. I think they can still be purchased. Is there a high fence ranch near you that offers hunts for exotics? That would be my guess.

First off its not a Fallow Whitetail, as someone suggested. It is known as a fallow deer.

Although they have very large racks, I have never heard of one with 21 points.

Cat: As far as I know, Fallow can and will cross breed with whitetails.

It is widely known that white-tail will interbreed with mule deer and black tail.
With the abundance of chcolate, spotted, and white fallow in the Texas hill country- I have never seen a cross.

But ya never know!:)

My uncle raises fallow deer to sell the venison. This sounds like it is a fallow deer. Also some of his deer have been in pens so long they will eat corn out of your hand.
