That might force a lot of hunters to start doing their own butchering, so they were sure they got a true weight.

I used to hunt in Maryland and their DNR handed out info on that. You get about 50% of the field dressed weight in usable meat-no bone. I just took a doe in to have the whole thing made into sausage. I figured about 70# field dressed. Deer meat before pork was 32 pounds. I guessed within 6 #. The problem is you already removed a lot of usable meat, so that will not help you.

The 50% is all meat. If you have steaks and chops with bone in, it will be more.
Not bad when you compare to other stuff. How much do you get back when you filet a fish? Some fish are half head.
