These all have been taken in the last wee or so our rut started later then most areas up here. He doesn't look like that old of deer to me. I could be wrong. We have 2 smaller younger 8's that looks to have the same genetics as him. Our plan was to keep the cams up all winter into next year and see if he goes down hill or not. Idk, I hope we are making the right choice..

He's definately an adult deer. 3.5 being the youngest he would be, but I think he's at least 4.5 so you should take the buck next year.
If he is like many bucks where I hunt in Douglas County (near Superior/Duluth) area I'm guessing he's in his two prime years. He may have another year of good growth, but he could start declining next year as well.
The winters are just hard in a lot of Wisconsin and Minnesota so its hard to say if a buck will max out at 4.5 or 5.5 years. Some bucks in areas with good feed can be at their best at 6.5 like they are around Eau Claire, WI where my parents live. That is not the case where we go gun hunting though.
I would not wait too long to take him. He's definately a nice buck.

He looks like a 3.5 to 4.5YO in this pic. That last pic does not look like the same buck.
110-115 green max, tough to judge. Short times, thin mass, big body and apparent grey around the muzzle is why i think he's older.
I wouldn't have passed on him. Doubtful he'll get bigger on top.
