Buckshot legal in Vermont?
Hi all, first post.
This is my first season hunting whitetail in VT, and my shotgun with buckshot is my only viable option this year. I'm confident with it, and I know its limitations. I have never shot a single slug out of it, and don't have time or funds to learn to shoot them since the gun season is over this weekend.
Anyway, I was talking to my neighbor tonight, and mentioned that I would be going out with buckshot. He immediately told me not to get caught with it because it's illegal. I've searched the internet and the hunting manual extensively and have not been able to find anything to suggest that it is illegal. Can anybody tell me for sure? I can't go out until I get a good answer on this.

Thanks for the replies. I've sent an email to the address on the Fish and Wildlife website, hopefully they get back to me. I won't be out until later today anyway. If I can't get an answer, I will call a game warden. Thanks again.

I looked in the F&W book and see that shotguns as well as rifles and ML are legal. I can't find where buckshot is specifically mentioned. Years ago people did use that combo but in recent years all the people I know who used shotguns used slugs.

Legal or not you still need to buy different brands and see how they pattern in your gun before trying to kill a deer with them...
Many deer are wounded each year because hunters don't do the above, then they blame buskshot...

I've done a ton of patterning. I'm very confident at this point. Thanks, though.
