Ask this on the bowhunting forumn, most here dont agree with crossbows but some do and will give u some good advice. You can use the search option as there was this very topic a few weeks ago.

RE: Crossbow for hunting
I just got a disability permit to use one in Minnesota. I bought a Barnett Revolution. The package deal cost me $400. I tried out alot of crossbows and I don' t think any of them are very light. Just sighted it in yesterday. I like it alot.

Barnett Ranger 150# for $139 at sportsmansguide.com . Comes with 4 bolts and a red dot sight , buy longer bolts for broadhead shooting . The rig weighs about 5 lbs.

RE: Crossbow for hunting
I tried that Barrnett RC150 to start with.it doesn' t have the energy and a long enough stroke to do the job like it should.
I sold mine and went to the Quad 300 with a longer stroke, and have nevver regretted it.JMHO;) |

RE: Crossbow for hunting
i use a horton xl. the other hunter is correct in saying about all are heavy.do not pay attention to thos bow hunters who do not like crossbows. they have just as many gimmicks, and probably more. than a crossbow. they are not as accurate as people think. all the scope does is get you in the area better. same thing with sight pins on a bow.your range varies greatly with how you are able to shoot. get good broadheads. i have been told most crossbows are not made for 4 blade broadheads. i use a muzzy realtree,125 gr,3 blade broadhead.i also use horton bolts.i would say not to attach the quiver because it is already going to be heavy.. i take the quiver with me but just lay it down. get a goos string wax and rail lube and the strings will last. the strings are supposed to be waxed after almost every shot.
