Box Blind
I am going to build a box blind to hunt out of this season. Does anyone have a suggestion on what height from the floor I should put my shooting windows?

RE: Box Blind
40" is usually about right. thats what i build mine to . you can sit in a chair and take a tape measure and hold it to about 40 and see if that is right for you.

RE: Box Blind
It depends on the chair that you will be using. I have 2 stands that have bar stools in them, so the openings are higher than the ones with loser seats. One stand just has a box witha lid for storage and a swivel seat mounted to the top. The height of the opening is quite a bit lower. Yiou have to adjust.

It is best to measure the height with the chair that you will be using. You just don' t want the base of the window to be too high, as it will throw you off of your shooting form.

RE: Box Blind
I put mine 40" up from the floor based on seat height. It seems so low in my box because I built it open to the roof above this height so I could swing a shotgun for ducks and geese. I' ll see how it goes in about a week and a half.

bg I would say the guys sayin 40" are about DEAD ON. I built a 4' x8' shootin house a couple of years ago and put three hydraulic typin chairs in it for company or my sons and the windows are 36" from the floor. With the chairs all the way down I am ok, but my father in law missed a deer because he said he couldnt get low enough behind the gun (lol that or he was just nervous because I was filming it and it was about a 275yd shot). I have since noticed that while it doesnt bother me, my next box will have 40" windows in it. The hyd chairs are nice for kids/smaller shooters, they can still shoot from the taller windows.

RE: Box Blind
DanO,
Just a suggestion; put a hinged top board in your stand, one that can be swung up and out of the way. When deer hunting, by dropping it, you cut down on the light coming inside, and by being darker, helps to hide any movements to be seen on the outside. I also use a very dark flat paint to the inside. I even tried placing grass cloth (used to hold back silt in ditches). Wind caused too much movement and it also frayed. So I chucked the idea. Russ |
