Smokepole question
This might sound stupid, but i dont know much about muzzleloaders. I shoot them but have never tried anything other than what my step dad uses. He uses old lead muzzleloader bullets. I have a Thompson center black diamond, and I was wondering if I can shoot hollow point hornadys out of it. Also, will they fly the same, or will i have to re-sight my gun?
Thanks |
Yes you can shoot them out of it, but you need to dial it in for that bullet. Different powder charges and different bullets will hit anywhere and everywhere. Just need to see where it hits and dial in accordingly.
variables include type of powder powder charge by grains bullet type gun bore (some guns have a tighter bore than others and both can be .50 cal) barrel twist type of caps and so on. |
Yep, jacketed pistol bullets work fine...Many buy .430s or .451s in bulk in 240-300gr and then buy sabots in bulk to match...
You do know we have a Black Powder section on the forum as well don't you??? |
guess i shoulda posted it there huh? lol

I shoot an older Black diamond myself. After trying a couple of things I got the best performance with Hornady .430 300gr XTP's crush rib sabot pushed by 95gr tripple seven. Very nice groups. Killed about a dozen deer with that combination and have great confidence in the load.
