I'd like to try something different this season and use indirect fire to get my deer. A friend of mine is going to be forward observer at a distance of about a mile. What is my best shell/charge combination for getting that monster buck?

Definitely the ole "shake and bake"... best served on a parallel sheaf of course.

I like the m102 howitzer because it's easier to get around than most. It doesn't really matter what you load it up with, I haven't had any problems getting a good blood trail out of any shells I've used.

Im rather partial to the M204 with HE myself. Cuts down on the cooking time later. Speaking of cooking, looks like the OP is a tester of some kind of home cooking himself!!!!

I use an old 2in. howitzer they used in WWI by the brits.....she's a little shaky and isn't as pretty as the newer ones...but she gets the job done.

I would say the MLRS system would work the best. You find out what grid square hes in and press the button.

After much debate, I decided to go with an A-10 gun run instead of the mortars. It's hard to bracket deer these days.

If you decide to follow thru with you original plans, a 4.2" mortar, with a couple WP shells ought to do it........do it, as in, land you in the local calaboose.
