Maine fights a decline in hunters - help!
#21
Specific to Maine, I would say declining opportunity is the main (get it?) reason. My buddy in the military is from Maine and has gone back to do a week hunt with family for the past 8-10 years. Getting tired of not seeing any bucks, he is not going back this season. As someone noted, particularly in the past 3 years, Maine has had some tough seasons and its big buck reputation has taken a hit.
For myself, if I was going to pay for a trip out of my state (Va) to get a really big buck, I would consider Ontario, Canada way before Maine.

Its really very simple no biologist needed..No DEER No HUNTER
I have hunted Northern Maine on & off for over 30 years very few deer overall and the past winters have made it worse. My brother is completely dedicated to Northern Maine...3 weeks EVERY YEAR for over 40 years...he has gotten some nice bucks sure but very very few when compared to the time he puts in. Maybe a half a dozen that stand out 200 lbs +
No doe should ever be killed for the next 10 years, turn in EVERY poacher and never let him hunt again, pay $20 bucks for every coyote turned in ....then maybe just maybe the herd will return
