If a paratrooper is hanging from a tree after a jump, that is considered to be a particularly dangerous form of parachuting.
But if you're a hunter with a safety harness, you are always suppose to be hanging from a tree.
Now why is that?

Just a guess but I doubt the trooper had much time to actually plan the "hang". But never having used a tree stand/hanger whatever I am guessing you plan where and how to hang the thing.

if paratrooper is jumping in, chances are he's got hostiles looking for him, and every minute. He hangs with a paratroop signalling his location, greater chance enemy will find him.
As for hunter, only have wildlife laughing at them,
Also if improperly used can be difficult to recover from,
Supposed to be with minimal slack, so if you fall easier to get back on your stand,
If you fall below your stand. May not be easy or possible to get back up or down

i have often wondered about that while sitting in a tree stand. when i have me safety harness hooked to the tree and if i did fall i will be below my stand. i wonder how hard it will be to get back into the stand when your just hanging there.

It sure beats the alternative of falling and hitting the ground from 20 feet up. :s1:

Good Question, Guess Harnesses are meant to keep you in the tree and parachutes are to make you come to the ground hard to say o_O

Of course, I'm old and knew paratroopers. And for the life of me, I could never get it out of my mind, that a safety harness was like a paratrooper harness, and nothing about them was ever totally safe to me.

Of course when safety harnesses were introduced in hunting, I instantly fell to memories of those paratroopers and the thought of physical fitness. And we know physical fitness is rarely brought up on hunters.

And all this came to mind when I was tying my own prussic(prusik) knots and thinking of the actual physical fitness required to use them from a tree.

But it's not the first time I've thought of strange connections. Price of getting older I guess.
