What is the advantage of a dropaway over a whiskerbiscuit?

I use a popcicle stick. Works just as good as all of that fancy stuff. Kidding aside I think it all boils down to numerous factors. The bow,the arrows, the release and so on. My point is use what works best for your setup.

When a whiskerbiscuit wears out it can and will tear your fletching, with a dropaway you don't have that problem.

I use the vital gear, it has two rubber fingers that hold the arrow on the rest till you draw. I have shot thousands of arrow through mine with no issues. It is the most popular rest sold at the shop I frequent.
