question about making deer jerky
well i had 15lbs of jerky cut out of the buck i shot last year i pulled one of the 5lb bags out yesterday left in the sink over night then put it in the fridge for today until we got done building our deck today but anyways back to my question i put the jerky in around 10pm today or 9-2 how long from now will it be ready? it is set on 160 degrees in the dehydrator and how do i know when it is done? as you can tell probably this is the first time that i have made jerky.

You should try making it from burger its pretty easy to mix and it only takes about four and a half or five hours.

its really a preference thing, try it every so often to find the texture you want.

I just try pieces as I cook it. Usually takes at least four hours. You're drying a little warmer than I do though. But try it until it is how you like it. Then, take it out and put it in the refridgerator till it cools down. I've found if you just set it on the counter it continues cooking for a while.

I dry mine until is is essentially potato chip crispy. I prefer mine that way. And l often make Pemmican. I prefer Pemmican when out for all day, especially in very cold weather.
