Deer and cherries

I was doing a little scouting the other day and looking for a place to hang my camera and found a cherry tree. It' s right on the edge of a bean field in a little finger of timber that leads to a larger stand of trees. I noticed quite a few tracks and some droppings near the tree so I decided to hang my camera near by and check things out. Does anyone else have any experience with deer eating cherries or does anyone know if they like them?

Much of my area I hunt has cherry trees. They are the little tiny cherries from a rough barked tree. They will surely eat them, you should get some pics from there.

It is probably a Choke Cherry. Got quite a few in my timber. After they have laid on the ground long enough to start to ferment, you can' t keep deer away from them.

DO you have any idea what time they usually ripen and fall off. I only saw 1 red one. None on the ground and a ton of green ones. Hopefully this will turn out to be a great spot to hunt.

The area I hunt in WV. has many cherry tree' s and when the cherries drop the
deer and bear scarf them up like crazy. Some years they drop heavy and some
years there are no cherries. When they do drop it seems to be in mid October
for this area. Our county forester told me once frost has alot to do with how
well the cherry crop will be from one year to the next.

Sounds like it should be a good spot to set up on come mid October. The tree I found looked to be loaded with cherries. From top to bottom there were a bunch. Can' t wait to check it out in a few months!

Titleist,
You' re fortunate. None of my Cherry trees have any fruit on them this year. I believe a late frost got all of the blooms. Guess I' ll have to rely on the Persimmon trees this year for fruit. The two in my yard are loaded. The fruit on one is the size of tennis balls.
