Hey Hunters
I was hunting this evening in Maines early bow season. I have a spot near a well used deer trail between 2 apple trees. Then at about that magic hour, 15 turkeys come in and get in the trees around me and above me. My question is did that have any affect on me not seeing any deer?

I have had this happen hundreds of times here in illinois those turkeys can make some noise scratching around but hasnt ever effected my hunting still seen deer i love seeing turkey 3-4 years ago turkey was rare in this area now they are all over the place.

Never experienced the roosting scenario you described ... but feeding, my experience ... not in the least. While deer and turkey are definitely curious about one another, I have seen them compete over available acorns. I never seen one spook the other in any fashion or form as long as both were not in alarm mode. In fact other than having more (and great) eyes in the area, I think that when deer see calmly feeding turkeys, they settle down as well.

When deer and turkey are on the ground together, there is generally no problem. On the other hand, I have seen and heard of many instances that deer were spooked by turkeys flying to or from the roost. It is the sudden commotion of the flapping of the wings that startles the deer. Generally when they come off the roost. It may startle them for the moment and they may run off a ways, but it will not compromise the ground and all will be good when they realize what has caused the commotion.

I've seen Deer feed behind and follow Turkeys because they had extra eye's watching out for them...if the Turkey's saw anything and took off so would the Deer!If You didn't spook the Turkeys then You have some good camo and cover!
