Deer shedding velvet on ground?

While searching for buck rubs today, I came across an area on the ground where the grass was chewed up, and you could see drag marks on the ground that looked like they could have been caused by the tips of the antlers. Does anyone know if deer rub off velvet on the ground?

Turkey. That's the first thing that comes to mind. Turkey can tear things up on the ground.

Yeah but i thought they did that in mating season, which is now.

I don't think they normally put their antlers to the ground. More than likely you found a spot where the turkeys were scratching for food.

I did some more research and some website said they do. It was unclear to me if the deer use their hooves or antlers though.
