My son is 10 years old and I'm going to take him out for his first year of deer season this year. My question is can he get his deer tag without having his hunters education course yet? According to KDWP here http://kdwpt.state.ks.us/news/Huntin...tions-and-Fees anyone under 16 does not need a yearly hunting license to hunt but must be with and adult but not sure about his deer tag.

I plan to get him into hunters ed sometime (school used to do it so I need to check) but he has been shooting for years and has multiple guns of his own, always with me while shooting and understands the safety concerns so please don't lecture me about not letting him hunt until he takes the course.

That was all I found... I don't think you should have a problem getting him a tag.

from what i remember you need to have a hunters safety course but you don't have to buy a hunting license until you are 16. if i am wrong let me know if you don't mind.

Ok all they needed was his name, SSN, address height and weight. No hunters ed I guess until 16. Any deer youth tag was $17.50

Just got the new scope put on his Rossi .243 and will sight it in tomorrow then take him out to spend some time in the blind Sunday. His first year hunting and I can't wait!!! Gonna try and bring the video camera and get some video out there. Wish him luck!
