Broken beam? or grew that way?

Let me know what you guys think...do you think this beam was broken in velvet and then healed? or do you think this growth is genetic. should i shoot him to get the genetics out of the herd? or let him go to see when the antler does next year?

Hmm that's strange looking... I'd say it's probably genetic... Cull him out.
|
It looks like his left rear leg, or hip might have got hurt causing the deformed right side antler.

I had pictures of a deer kind alike that last year, I think mine got hit by a car and that is wat caused the groth defects on the one side. This may be the same situation...

ole freak nasty. would make a cool mount i say it is from an accident
|
Take him out.
|
Yeah I say take him, You really do not want that stirring about during breeding season.
|
I agree with some of the previous posts. Whack him! Definetly would be a cool mount if you chose to do so....
|
I'd shoot him just because he looks cool! Would make a great looking mount.

cant really tell, but if he was there last year and it wasn't all crazy, i am saying let him go and he will be nice next year, the one side goes out pretty wide and would be huge if the other side wasnt messed up. just my 2 cents, plus you will be able to tell next year for sure. if you call that bad genetics, have you not seen any huge nontypicals with funky racks that you would have wanted on your wall, cause i would, give him a year or 2 for sure.

looks like some age on this one .... I'd not hesitate to take it.
|
looks like growth from injury

-Jake if its from damage to him i don't know if you would pass that on thru your genes |
Ok this is an interesting post. I would guess an injury to his the left side of his body caused the abnormal growth. So you say cull why? He has a great left side. If it was an injury it doesn't alter his genes. Your born with your genetic code. It doesn't change.
Just like in the shows. They shoot an old buck with rag horns, and comment that he needed to be taken out of the herd so he can't breed anymore. Once again why? At 4-5 yrs old he had a monster rack and his horns went rag cause of age and body health not cause his genes changed. Just my two cents. |
well said deernutz, well said. But I would more than likely take him because of the character, what a cool mount it would be...
|
Very interestin! I too recommend harvestin him, only to make sure it isn't genetic and stirrin up the pool.
Good luck, and thanks for sharin! Pyro |
