Is This Buck a Piebald? (Pic)
4 Attachment(s)
Hard to tell with the infrared at night. It looks like a piebald to me.
|
looks to me like he is getting his winter coat...
|
So that's just patchy fur reflecting the light differently?
I gotta get a day time photo to be sure. |
According to Websters' dictionary - If it does have white in areas that are normaly brown, it would not be a "Piebald". A Piebald animal is one that is BLACK with white splotches. It would be a "Skewbald", which is any color with white blotches.

A screwball? :D

Just looks like his winter coat is coming in. A color pic would tell you for sure, but if black and white is all you have then you'll have to wait to see a piebald to know if it was :D

Camera takes color in the day and B&W at night. Since it's in my yard in the suburbs, I'm only getting night pictures. I'll move it into the woods nearby once this stupid hurricane passed. I don't want to go outside now. :D

I dont see anything that would say its a piebald.
|
Its just the way the fur looks. I'm getting a lot of deer that look like that on my cam too.

Skewbald not piebald - just being "colorly" correct
|
Looks like a piebald to me although the black and white image does not help. And just to clear up the coloration they do not have to have a black coat to be considered piebald. I know this due to the fact that the piebald I shot last year was confirmed as one by an R.I state biologist at a check station. I have some pics somewhere I will see if I can load them....

Nope...just shedding the summer coat like others said.
|
Hard to say with black and white pictures. Looks like his summer coat to me.
