Its just the way the fur looks. I'm getting a lot of deer that look like that on my cam too.

Skewbald not piebald - just being "colorly" correct

Looks like a piebald to me although the black and white image does not help. And just to clear up the coloration they do not have to have a black coat to be considered piebald. I know this due to the fact that the piebald I shot last year was confirmed as one by an R.I state biologist at a check station. I have some pics somewhere I will see if I can load them....

Nope...just shedding the summer coat like others said.
