Look at the growth on the bottom of this guys neck. Do you think this is something that will affect how long he naturally would live and what do you think about eating him

That seems quite odd. Almost looks like a goiter, but i don't know if deer even have a thyroid. Maybe it was bitten by something or its a tumor. Keep tabs on that deer. If it gets smaller I wouldn't worry but if it stays the same or grows then I would remove him from the population and check the growth out... Not sure if I would eat him unless I knew what that was.

Just looked this up. Apparently growths (cysts, benign tumors, fibromas) are relatively common?

Last time i seen a growth like that was a Drury Outdoors video from several years ago. At that time i don't think they knew what it was. The growth was quite similar in size and they left him walk also.

would really like to know if he is safe to eat cause i would hate to pass on him... lol

If you're feeling adventurous this season, you could take that deer. Try cutting around it. If it was malignant, the deer would have other tumors. If thats the only one, I would eat him.

if that isnt a bad shot by a hunter, then i think you will find when ya skin him that all that will come off in the skin, with a lil blood vessle from the cavity connecting it to the rest of the body. i'll five $100 to watch sumone take a drink of what ever is in there.

I send some pics to the ky department of fish and wild life and apparently this is called a hydrocyst and will not harm the deer or the meat. Its the result from a tramatic injury to the area and is basically a sack of fluid. Found some more pics off deer online with the identical condition. Thanks for everyones input

Its a tumor, or Arnold S would say its not a tumor
