hunting with a mosin?
i want to shoot a deer with my mosin with brown bear 203 gr soft point, but i dont want to ruin the meat, also i just bought a 308, and 150 gr soft point ammo, is the exit wound and meat damage bad? pics would help!
Thanks! |
Depends on where you him them. Through the ribs, big exit wound, little damage. Through the shoulder, throw that one away.

I don't like to waste meat either, I know the last 12 deer I've shot I had one head shot, one lung shot and ten high neck shots, and it makes them easier to dress.

Don't worry about ruining the meat. Just place your shot as carefully as possible. I've used rifle, shotgun and bow. Haven't really ruined any meat yet. Every once in a while you have to toss out a spoon full of meat because of a blood clot. Not a big deal.

Don't throw it away, still has good tenderlion, backstrap, ad hindquarters. |

You don't have to throw the whole shoulder away. That's crazy. If you shot it with a 30-06 thru the shoulder you would just cut around the hole it made and move on. The mosin is pretty much the same as a 308. Just cut out the small bit of meat that bruised around the wound.
