Pre-Season Mock Scrapes

Has anyone been using Mock Scrapes yet this season? I'm in the Midwest and I will be creating a few mock scrapes next weekend. I was wondering if anyone had sucess with these yet this season and if so, what you have been using to create your scrapes.
Thanks!

I am in WI, and hunt in northern WI. and one of my friends dad "says" that he creates his own scrapes on the ground with his boots and pees on it himself and has seen bucks check it several times, mostly small ones, but i do happen to know that last year dropped a huge 8 point, one of the nicest 8's i have ever seen, don't know if it had anything to do with the scrape though

I have had success getting bucks to check mock scrapes but as of yet no shooters. I also think your about 2 monthes to early to be making mock scrapes.

Whatever works!!! You might be onto something. I personally try to get my stands hung early and stay out, except to check cams or something. I think that if a buck smells a hot doe or something else related to breeding season and never finds it, he may leave his bachelor group to search one out. I'm waitin' for the apples to start droppin'!

A little follow up, I created a mock scrape last week and left my camera out to monitor it all week. When I went out to check it earlier today, I had eight different bucks check the scrape over the course of the week. Having eight bucks check it is a lot for where I hunt. However only one of the eight bucks "scrapped" themselves. They clearly aren't to that point yet, but I'm happy I started a mock scrape, even though its only August yet.

I tried using some scents from Code Blue. I buried a bag of the Code Blue Grave Digger. And then added a little Code Blue Tarsal Gland lure. Again only one of the ten (I recounted) bucks scrapped themselves, but it surely brought them in to an area that they normally wouldn't check out. The vast majority during day light hours...The final judgement on the effectiveness of the scrape will come when I check my camera the next time to see if those deer return to the scrape again.

That's cool! Are your photos up in the trail cam forum? What's yer local doe population like?

I used Code blue last year for the first time, and had great success, but I didnt start them until right around rutt time. I will be starting my mock scrapes today when I go check the trail cams. I am trying the Buck Fever Synthetic scents this year.
