i threw a mineral block on a stump one weekend and spread 50lbs of corn and came back the next weekend...not a trace of corn and the block had a nice sized spot licked out of it......noone was near to disturb them and the area was a major travel route though....

I really gues that depends of you put it in the right spot.
We have had very good luck with tail gate feeding and leading trails into our area - to possibly bring deer in that would not normally be using my particular area.
Licks are great and deer as well as other animals will frequently visit these.
Heres a word for your hunting vocabulary -
geophagia - geo (earth) phagia ( to eat) the consumption of soil by animals to obtain minerals. A salt mineral lick is a great substitiute.
