Yes. Hanson sued Rompala. He was losing money and show bookings because there was doubt as to whether his buck was still #1. The lawsuit was to say to Rompala that he should get his rack scored up front and show the world it's legit or he should go away and stop promoting his buck to be the new #1.
After that, things got quiet. I'll see if I can find a link. This stuff happened a while ago. Late 1990s, maybe? Early 2000s? |
Thanks Barnes. I found the article. Whether it be over money or pride, I understand why Hanson finally said enough was enough and basically said I call and Rompola folded. You could not write this stuff if you tried. I like the fact that he claims to have killed all these deer and only one other person has one that matches up to all of his. That sounds pretty fishy also.

I was reading up on this stuff recently since the King buck reminded me of the last time Hanson's buck was threatened. Then I read somewhere that Rompala was a postal employee who was arrested for some kind of sexual deviance as well.
Probably not the best poster child for whitetail deer hunting. :D |
I have some friends in Michigan. I asked them about the guy a few months back and they had heard some things from some locals. They are a few hours away from him but many people are real skeptical about it even being a fair chace for the deer that was attached to the antlers. He is never getting into the B&C record books.
