Shotgun Recommendations For Deer Hunting
My wife really wants to deer hunt this year and prefers a shotgun over a Muzzle Loader. We have a budget of about 600.00 for the gun and a simple scope like a red dot unit for 100 yard or less shots.
I want it to be compact and light weight for use in a blind or ladder stand from which she will hunt. If your wives or girlfriends hunt what have you bought for them? My wife is a big strong gal not petite, so she can handle a 12 guage just fine and 3 1/2 shells also. She shot expert in the military and is a good shot with most firearms. Thanks!

Does she prefer a pump or semi-auto?
There are many many good choices out there.
My preference is Mossberg.
I suggest the M500, 12 guage shoots 2 3/4 or 3" shells.
22 to 24" barrel with fiber optic sights & interchangeable chokes.
Receiver is tapped for scope mounts as well.
Or the M935 magnum, same combination of barrels and chokes but can shoot 2 3/4 (not too reliable though) 3 or 3 1/2" shells.

I'd throw the best scope you can afford on it.
leupold makes the ultimate slam which has a ballistics reticle out to 300yds for your given slug load...50,100,150,200,250,300
if I had to do over I think I'd do the 1 piece dead nutz scope mount...
luckily I have a machine shop at my disposal...

I shoot a Mossberg 695. It's a bolt action 12 ga slug gun. Shoots awesome. I do not think they are making those anymore, but I've heard great things about the Savage 220F. I personally like shooting bolts over pumps or semi's.

Another vote for the Savage 220. I've got one and that thing is a tack driving son-of-a-gun. I know you said 100yards and under but this thing has no problem at 150 and will even go 200 without a lot of drop. Just make sure to shoot what they suggest to use in it. Got mine from Cabelas with a scope already on it for $500-something.

I went and looked at the Savage 220F and will consider it when I take her to look at the various guns that have been suggested. The Savage was very light and simple to use. I had forgotten about the 44 Mag. single shot rifles we are allowed to use,thanks for mentioning it,I saw a nice 9 pointer a 10 year old got during the youth season last year. He used the 44 mag. and droped that deer in it's tracks at 50 yards with no problem. Also looked at a Mossburg 535 I kind of like it but she will have to decide which one she feels good with.
