Anyone in Virginia finding any sheds yet? I haven't seen any walking around sporting head gear lately so I'm thinking they may have begun to shed. Seems a little early for this area though.

Master Chief 01-13-2012 09:57 AM

I found a last year shed today

LI archer 01-26-2012 07:15 AM

It is still shot gun season here on Long Island,NY. Talked with a buddy last saturday and his uncles shot bucks with full racks still! It has been warm here sadly thinking the warm temps are messing up the shedding??? going out this sat and sunday where i had a nice 10pnt but was in friends tree stand and was not the best tree to be in...

LI archer 01-31-2012 07:17 AM

no Sheds this weekend... went out to take stands down with 2 hunting friends. They saw the day before alot of bucks with full head gear still... mid febuary maybe....

boonie76 02-03-2012 09:04 AM

Where about in MN are you? I have not been out looking yet, but have heard of some guys finding a couple good sets in early Jan. Not the norm for here, I guess. I have seen a couple bucks with one side, or none at all, but still see the most with both.

North Wind 02-03-2012 09:40 AM

sweet first time find!

vl Whitetail Genereal lv 02-06-2012 05:36 AM

Southwest i saw a ten the other night with antlers still

LI archer 02-07-2012 03:35 AM

I finally found a shed. It was only a small 4pnt. However I think my Big 8 I am looking for still has his rack. I found fresh trees rubed up!

kamoking 02-19-2012 06:48 AM

Awesome! especially to find a matching set! Looked at Mossy Oaks new offering for collecting racks but will have to pass, was a plastic food bucket with a spreader up top and rubber bungee cords placed around the circle bottom and top. They wanted about $250 BUCKS!!!! Oh well enjoy the scouting, exercise, and thrill of the hunt for sheds better than an antler trap anyhow, good job and good shed hunting!!:cool2:

LI archer 02-22-2012 11:00 AM

finally another small 4pnt found today on the nursery. very fresh within the last 24hrs.. gotta drop soon!!! good luck hope you guys find the biggins!

sixpointeightfan 02-27-2012 05:36 PM

My buddy has an 18 month old black Lab that is finding a lot of bones this year. It is pretty amazing watching a dog work.

Vermont_hunter 02-29-2012 05:54 AM

heading out today to look some more so far all i have found is bones here and there. i saw a small 6 still wearing his head gear on sunday so hopefully he drops soon.

snapper1982 02-29-2012 09:56 AM

Here is one of four sheds found Sunday. I get a big smile on my face everytime the dog finds another shed>

halcon 04-12-2012 05:48 PM

Well I haven't been out shed hunting myself but my Lab pup has really made up for it . So far he has brought in four five point sheds , a four point , a three point and a nine point skull and horns and He only goes around the house . I dont know what started him bring them in they just started showing up on the front porch .

What is the time limit on shed hunting?? i.e. before all of the rodents and mice destroy the tines....

HUNTINGEASTCOAST 05-16-2012 08:15 AM

Nice sheds! I plan to start looking for some on my property soon. I have a good amount of cam pictures and a good idea of where they bed. If I find anything I will be posting it on huntingeastcoast.com.

Total accident. I was out walking and saw this laying on the next hillside from me. :cool2::s1::s1:

I wish the other side would have been around!

BowtechBro 01-04-2013 08:37 PM

This thread is making me want march and april to come around fast!!! You can't beat going out for a walk when warmer weather is moving in, and find a few antlers. I have a question though I've had very good luck finding all sizes of antlers from spikes to some big boys but I have only ever found 3 perfect sets of antlers and I've been going every year for the last 10 plus years but most of the time I'll find one side and thats it and I've found some big 4 and 5 points that would be great 8 and 10 point sets, spent alot of time looking for the other side in some case's prolly just lady luck or maybe you guys have some tips??

iayotehunter 01-10-2013 10:31 AM

Deer are dropping their antlers here in Iowa.. Hope to have some pics of sheds starting Sunday.

iayotehunter 01-11-2013 09:04 AM

Well wasn't even looking for them but came across this set this morning when moving a deer stand.

What awesome character. He will be a Bruiser next year for shure.

VTBoneCollector 01-23-2013 04:25 PM

Congrats on your find. I know your excitement. I found a matching set of sheds this past winter. One in late February and the other side in mid March. They were chewed up a bit so I had them restored. Wish I hadn't, just for memory sake, but too late now. When I found the first side, I figured it was at least a nice 8 pointer but when I found the other side I realized that it was in fact a really nice 10 pointer with a kicker off of the G2 on the right side. Never saw him this fall but wasn't surprised. We have some harsh winters and the deer travel for miles to yard up where I found the sheds.

VTBoneCollector 01-23-2013 04:28 PM

Nice sheds!!!

HuntFishRide 01-28-2013 08:13 AM

Shed hunting is a lot of fun. I usually find 5-10 every season. Not sure how many have dropped yet here in PA though. I saw a full racked 6 point a couple of days ago, but I'll be looking

fzo 02-02-2013 12:11 AM

congrats on your find from germany

bhalverson 02-15-2013 12:31 PM

I can never find whitetail sheds....I apparently do not have an eye for them or I am not in the right spot

Keep seeing Bucks with them still on in Indiana, found one little dinker antler after 10 miles of looking in the forest so far. Any Hoosiers finding any in the Southern part of the state? Keep seeing fresh rubs and scrapes all over the place, looks like the rut is still on even though its done.

LI archer 03-07-2013 06:20 AM
