Nice pic...........question, i thought permits were for does only? I guess not, could you explain how the permit works.

P.S. I hunt in Northampton Co here in NC, were are you?

RE: My first deer (pic)

it was taken in brunswick county...near wilmington,nc. Permits are issued monthly and allows 5 deer to be taken. The game warden has to come look at your land to see the crop damage being done by the deer. The permit says 5 antlerless deer, but the warden told my grandfather that either gender may be taken in order to save the crops from being ruined.

this deer was taken on a new moon. After hunting for weeks - observational studies have revealed that deer seem to be more active when there is no moon. I have hunted on a full moon until midnight and seen nothing. On nights that were extremely dark were the times I saw the most deer... just something I thought I would share.

Nice buck - BUT I' ve got to say it BOTHERS me your first is on a summer management permit, the local warden says " deer=male/female - don' t worry about it" . Not because I care so much about your particular herd, But because so many here are afraid to say what they think -

Beleive me - if you only had a doe permit in season - and you posted about the nice buck you shot and illegaly tagged- you' d get your asss chewed on this forum.

NOW - Congrats on the buck.....I absolutely understand your excitement and pride..... now, Do some research on deer, deer populataions, carrying capacities, QDM, and your state' s management philosophy - you will be VERY Glad you did - and you will come away- with a little more " understanding" . Your follow up hunting experiences will be SO much better once you do.

Thanks for posting - its the first buck I read about taken this season.
