Slug Scope
 

my post in the optics section is getting no love, so maybe this will do better here...

considered the nikon slug hunter but took a look at the leupold ultimate slam and liked that more. both of these scopes have a reticle that shows the drop of the slug out to 200 or 300yds

what power though?

2-7x33 (2.5-6.5x actual mag.)
or
3-9x40 (3.3-8.5x actual mag.)

I like a larger scope, so the 3x9 would be my choice. The glass in both brands probably come from the same factory.

Go with the 3X9X40mm...bigger is much better to see thru and to draw in low light conditions!I have Leupold 3X9X40mm scopes on my Browning .243 and the Savage 7mm-08 Rifles,they are great scopes and work very good in the early mornings and late evenings when there is low-light conditions,they are nice and clear and help in drawing in as much light as possible...when using the 3X9 power if Your in heavy thick woods or low light conditions turn the power down to 3,You'll be able to see an animal easier and pick it up in your scope and it will make it more visable.

I too suspect that the quality of the glass being used in either of these scopes and the sophistication of the coatings are pretty much equivalent. If you do not mind the higher mounting, I'd say go with the larger diameter. Should be a better low light performer. Though I do admit I know nothing of these two specific scopes.

I have had a 3.7 - 10 x 50 Simmons on my Savage 210F for 13 years. There have been no problems and the combination has proven accurate to 150+ yards. Many boxes of ammo have gone through the gun. I use 2 3/4 inch Remington Copper Solids because the 3 inch, which I did try, seemed unnecessary. In spite of the pounding this scope has taken, it seems uneffected.

all my slug guns (12ga. & 20ga.) all have the Leupold VX-II in 3-9x40
