15 year old ammo
A local gun store went under, and I got 15-20 year old Nosler Partition Federal ammo. 7mm-08. Would you go hunting with these ?
4 boxes of NP would be a shame to blast at the range. I shoot plently of old ammo at the range, in my other firearms and it's no difference. But I never went hunting with it. Never had a bad round, at least in a center fire. last week I fired a box of .30-06 that was 10 years old. I will definately take one box to the range and test it. |
Sight in and go hunting with it. Assuming that there is no corrosion on the cases it's just like it was 10 years ago.

I'm with bigbulls, as long as it's clean it should be fine. Today I shot some Winchester 300 Savage ammo from the 70's, shot just as good as new ammo.
|
That should be fine. As long as it all looks good, go kill some deer. I shot some old paper 20gauge shells last week. I have no idea how old they were, but they shot good.

Old stuff can still shoot
In fact, a fella was killed, not too long ago, by an exploding civil war artillery shell.

I have cases of 30-06 and .30 cal carbine ammo that's from the WWII era and they all have fired just fine. Those have corrosive primers so a cleaning is a must but the thing is that ammo is over 60 years old. I have stashed the rest for the just in case the apocalypse happens type thing. Sounds militant huh. LOL

15 years old...??.. I have SOCKS older than that....:D....
I have only had an issue one time with old ammo..It was a box of Winchester 7 x 57 factory loads a friend gave me years ago... He picked it up at a gun show and I have no idea how it may have been stored.. When I fired them, the catridges would actually HANGFIRE.. The firing pin would drop and there would be a 2-3 second delay and then the powder would go... I used them up shooting holes in the 55 gallon drum that I used for a burn barrel at the time.. |
i have shot some shotshells that were much older than that and never have had a misfire and have hunted with them some. no problems

15 years isn't long...I've gone that long without talking to my wife! LOL
Seriously...They'll be fine. If there's a problem, it wouldn't be because of age, it would be because of improper storage or a defect. |
I was gifted a Colt 1911 that was an issued gun to the US Mint guards. The gun came with factory ammo that was new in 1937. It shoots just fine.
