Is it legal??
Hey, I was wondering if any of you know if it is legal to put trail cameras out on public hunting land. I live in MN so it would be great to also hear what the rules are in other states.
Thanks |
In Alabama, there is no restrictions on where you can put a trail cam but on public land I wouldn't,theres to high of a risk someone would steal it. Just my $0.02

Illegal to leave equipment unattended in state lands in pa and ny,
Such as blinds/stands/cams, |
I think it's legal in TN. Not sure though. Either way I don't have one and if I did I usully hunt private land.
|
Totally legal in Michigan but very risky these days. Lots of thieves. My father in law had to stop using treestands because for the last 8 years in a row he had one stolen. I would love to catch the dirt bags who do that stuff.
|
Here in Indiana,, it is legal to leave stands on public land as long as it is tagged with your name and address. Although I would not take the chance on a stand nor a camera.
|
Ya i do know here in MN that you cant leave stands over night. I know there are also locks specially made that you can put your camera in, but i dont have one so i also am worried it willmget stole along with pics i get. Then that will give my secret away.

states where its illegal is because they dont allow equipment to be left unattended, except for label traps of course, equipment such as bilnds/stands. and cams usually fall under that equipment list. and many states havent updated their regs to accomodate for cams, as cams become more common maybe more states will start making exceptions for cams, |
actually I think montana was trying to get game cams outlawed because they think its an unfair advantage against the animals.
