Canadian Do-it-yourself hunt

Hey guys, i'm from northeastern lower michigan and me and a few friends have been talkin about a deer hunt in canada, don't want to go too far and dont want to spend an ungodly amount of money on it. I know absolutly nothing about doing this so all info welcome. Places to go, websites to check out, rules and regs. etc. Any info will be appriciated! Thanks.

Well you can forget the do it yourself part. Outfitters are mandatory. But from the limited amount of time that I have been up there there are some really nice deer. I was in Central Sask.

My belief is you can only get a license thru an outfitter. I have family in Saskatchewan, still no luck.

If I am thinking straight you can have your family in SK act as your guide.

In order to hunt anywhere in Canada it must be thru a lic. outfitter, and there is no gray area.

You don't need an outfitter in Ontario. Lots of provincial land to hunt, and not too far from you.

Yeah you do.

There are some areas in NW Ontario where you dont need an outfitter. As Rob from VT mentioned, lots of Crown land, but also lots of road hunters ( VT and PA ) . In Sask, all non-canadians need to hunt with an outfitter , basically in areas north of Saskatoon. Manitoba is outfitter only as well. PM me if you want more info on the Lake of the Woods area of NW Ont . w.

your right lakehunter, non res deer hunters don't need to be with a outfitter most of the wmu's only some have restrictions. It was my understanding that all big game had to be thru a outfitter. i guess deer don't count. i know moose and bear do though. we don't have deer here (this is my excuse) lol.
